You may experience this issue (error code: caa70004) unexpectedly when logging in to Teams application. It is very annoying as there is no way around to open your Teams application. Follow the guide below to resolve this caa70004 error easily.
Reason Behind caa70004 error
Some time this error happens after a windows update or any kind of configuration changes. As per Microsoft the issue seems to be due to “an issue with the forms based authentication and it appears to be bypassing that step for some reason”. This can happen due to your Antivirus blocking the authentication process as well. In general this error (caa70004) is very ambiguous and can happen to any one.
Although the root cause of the error can be understood by checking the logs or doing a fiddler capture but if you are unwilling to proceed that way then below are some proven techniques, which you can follow to fix this issue.
Steps to Resolve caa70004 in Teams
Before You Troubleshoot CAA70004
Before you begin troubleshooting this issue, make sure that your device is connected to an organization. To verify this, open settings > Account > Work or School and make sure you have an active account connected as shown in the below picture. If it is empty or blank, please click on the “+” button and login with your organizational email id and password.
If you have verified the above, then please proceed troubleshooting as mentioned below.
Method 1: Verify your Windows version
If you are using an older version of windows 10(version older than 1809) or any previous windows OS, such Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Then please upgrade to the latest version of windows 10 as the previous version of OS might not be fully compatible with the Teams application.
To check windows version, open settings > System > About > Windows version
Method 2: Cache Clearance
As always, cache clearance does the job most of the times. So try clearing cache and check if it helps to resolve the issue.
To clear cache, follow the below steps
- Open your Teams cache folder, it is inside your user directory under AppData folder. Follow the path and find the teams directory.
path: C:\users\<your user id>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams
If you are unable to view the “AppData” folder, then please unhide hidden files. Refer to this Microsoft Document to know the detailed steps.
- Next clear everything inside the Teams directory marked in red above. If you are unwilling to delete then please cut-paste the files from inside to a separate location as a backup.
- After clearing cache, try opening Microsoft Teams in admin mode and see if the error caa70004 is resolved. If not, then follow the next steos.
Method 3: Reinstall Teams Application
Reinstalling the teams application can sometimes resolve this issue.
If because of some reason your Teams application was not updated for few months then you might experience the error caa70004. So if that’s the case then try reinstalling the application and check if it resolves the issue. To reinstall Teams, first uninstall the existing Teams application by opening “Apps and devices settings” and then uninstalling. Next download the Teams app and reinstall the latest version, you can download the app from https://teams.microsoft.com or from your companies software portal.
Method 4: Change Compatibility Settings
This is a tricky solution and most of the time it resolves the error caa700o4. To change the compatibility settings of your Teams application,
- Frist close Teams app, then right click on Teams icon on desktop and select properties.
- Then open the compatibility tab and mark “Run this program in compatibility….”.
- Finally click Ok to close the window.
After changing the compatibility settings open the Teams app and check if it has been resolved. if the error code caa70004 still not resolved the follow the next steps.
Method 5: Verify if Antivirus is blocking Teams
Application like Teams, OneDrive uses WAM (Web Account Manager) API to connect to the services seamlessly. Most of the antivirus do not block this API connection but if this WAM is blocked somehow then it starts causing this kind of issues (i.e. error code ca7004). To verify if your antivirus or windows defender is causing this issue, try disabling the antivirus app and restart your Teams application. Check if the app works as expected.

Teams web app is same as desktop app, the only difference is that you cannot take/provide control over screen-share.
