Create a SharePoint Online Calendar

SharePoint is a collaboration tool from Microsoft, which has a very beautiful web design and rich meta data document storage solution. Moreover, using SharePoint users from different companies can talk to each other. In a nutshell, SharePoint has many features including document library, list, customizable web pages, blog posts and many more, and one of them is Calendar. SharePoint calendar allows employees to gain insight of what is happening around and stay up to date. Similar to previous versions of SharePoint, calendar is also available in SharePoint online and users with write access or above can create calendars.
What is A SharePoint Online Calendar?
Well a calendar (in both SharePoint classic and online), is a list which has some special information (columns). These special columns allows the list to be visible as a calendar. The nice thing is you can create calendar(view) in any list in SharePoint, just click “create new view” and choose “Calendar” option. However in this post I have shared the actual method you should follow to create a calendar in SharePoint online.
Cannot Find Calendar in SharePoint online
In SharePoint online, the default calendar creation option is hidden and is not visible to end users directly. You need to navigate to classic apps page and then create the calendar from there. If you are not sure, then follow the below steps.
Tutorial: Create SharePoint Online Calendar
Calendar creation is simple but requires few additional steps in SharePoint online. Follow the steps below.
- Navigate to Site contents page of your site and select new > App
- Search for Calendar app. If not visible select “classic experience” and then search for calendar.
- Give it a name and click create. And your calendar app is ready for use. As simple as that.
- That’s it, your calendar is ready and it should now be visible in Site contents page. If you open the the calendar then you should be able to view it as below.
