Disable OneDrive Sync – Safely
OneDrive is already installed in Windows 10, so there is no need for you to download and install it. If sync is turned on, it can help you sync files or folders so as to keep data safe.
Now, if for some reason you want to disable / stop OneDrive sync then you need to follow the below steps.
Stop using OneDrive App
- First, Right click on your OneDrive app available in your application tray (bottom right corner) and select Settings.
- Next, open account tab and select the option “stop sync”.
as you see, there is another option to “unlink this PC“, this will also stop OneDrive sync but it is used to stop all account sync instead of only one.
In other words, if you have multiple OneDrive locations(from different domains) connected to your PC, then “Stop sync” will stop only one particular domain from syncing. Whereas “Unlink this PC” will stop all OneDrive accounts from syncing. So choose as per your requirement.
You might receive a prompt to confirm your action, accept it. It won’t delete any of your files.
That’s all for stopping your OneDrive from syncing with your PC, but if you are willing to remove your local OneDrive files as well then follow the below steps.
By default OneDrive stores files under C drive user directory in the following path
C:\users\<your user id>\Onedrive – your domain
The “OneDrive – Your domain” in the above picture is the one that is from your company. So if you would like to delete the files, then just delete the entire folder or delete the files inside it.
